Getting Up Earlier

Day one of getting up earlier was a success. I got up at 10:30 instead of my usual 11. Getting to bed earlier, on the other hand, is not going so well. It’s hard working such a weird shift. I’d love to be able to go straight to bed as soon as I get home at 2-3am or whenever it may be, but I’m way too wound up.

Today (yesterday, technically) I did 30 min on the elliptical, 20 min on the bike, strength training (legs), & my PT exercises, of course.

I think the ideal job for me would be to read & comment on blogs all day long. Ha! Wouldn’t that be nice!

Week 9

All of my runs are now 5 miles or longer. Only a few weeks left until my half! I’m going to have to get up a little bit earlier these last few weeks to get my strength training & PT exercises in along with these longer runs. My posts may become less frequent these next few weeks, but I’ll try to keep up!

My run today..

I wanted to run outside, but I didn’t think I had enough time before the rain moved in. Turns out I did, dang it! I actually love running in the rain, but only if it’s warm enough.

Tomorrow, I’m going to make up this weekend’s missed cross training & strength training workout.

QOTD..
Do you enjoy running in the rain?

Weekend Update

Yesterday, I participated in a virtual memorial run since I’ll be at work during my community memorial run tomorrow. I saw two other runners out wearing Boston colors & got a few honks.

It was an eventful 9 miles. I got chased by a dog (a Boston terrier, ironically) which isn’t unusual, but this dog growled at me & I was momentarily worried he was going to attack me. I immediately stopped & started talking to him in the voice I use with my dogs until his owner came over & got him.

Then, I tripped over an uneven sidewalk & almost face planted, but I lunged & was somehow able to stay upright. Hopefully, there weren’t any witnesses. Also, my armpits kept making farting sounds. lol. No joke. I think it was because I was wearing long sleeves since the wind was chilly, but the sun was warm & I was sweating a lot!

Overall, it was a pretty great run & I really felt like I could have ran the half marathon yesterday, that’s how strong my legs felt. Oddly enough, the part of me that was the most sore afterwards was my back. Today, it’s my quads. I’m loving this foam roller!

Then, I did something I haven’t done for over three months, my hair & make up. lol. AND, I wore something other than my work uniform & running clothes!

We went to a friend’s for a bonfire & they had a keg. I hadn’t drank in three months, besides an occasional glass of wine. I ended up drinking too much as usual & felt like crap today. I really need to stop drinking beer & hard liquor because alcohol is the one thing I still haven’t learned moderation with & apparently never will. I definitely hadn’t missed drinking & I really have no desire to anymore. Soooo, no more alcohol for me, except wine every now & then. My liver will thank me.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

QOTD..
Did you do anything exciting over the weekend?

New Shoes

Today’s workout was a 4.5 mile run, strength training (hips & glutes), PT exercises, & a 2 min plank.

I got these Saucony Kinvara 3’s for only 60 bucks since the Kinvara 4’s are coming out next month!

I can’t wait to break them in after my half & add them into the rotation!

Here is my fitbit weekly progress report for last week that I forgot to post.

Oh, & I made the most delicious salad for lunch today!

I used lettuce, baby spinach, cottage cheese, avocado, tomato, hard boiled egg, flaxseed, & Walden Farms bacon dressing. So yummy!

Feet Hurt

And from wearing steel toes 45+ hours/week. I’m giving my feet an extra break this week & just doing my PT exercises today.

There have been a few nights here recently when I take off my steel toes, I get these sharp, intense pains & my whole body gets goosebumps. I have to massage my toes to get relief. It’s the weirdest thing ever. I’m not really sure what to do about it because I wear the lightest, most comfortable steel toes I’ve been able to find. Sucks!

Run For Boston & My First “Runiversary”

I ran 4.5 silent miles reflecting on yesterday’s events.

I also did some isolation strength training on my left leg, PT exercises, & a 2 min plank.

Yesterday, I got up at 9:30am to watch the Boston Marathon live & watched up until the most of the elite runners crossed the finish line. It wasn’t until I got to work at 4pm that I heard about the bombings. I don’t really know what to say that hasn’t already been said, but I’ve seen this quote a few times now & I really like it. “There’s always going to be bad stuff out there. But here’s the amazing thing — light trumps darkness, every time. You stick a candle into the dark, but you can’t stick the dark into the light.” – Jodi Picoult

Today is also my one year “runiversary”. Exactly one year ago today, I began the c25k program & immediately fell in love with running. I’m very proud to be a part of the running community.

Walk Around The Pond

We just got back from our walk around the pond & the trails in our neighborhood. The sunset was really pretty tonight & I want to share some pictures I took.

We live in a beautiful world, don’t we? I love being outside & seeing all the gorgeous things nature has to offer. You will be seeing a lot of pictures like these this summer. 🙂

We ended up walking 3 miles or so. I’m at 22,613 steps for the day. I think walking after a long run is a good thing, and foam rolling, of course!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! 😀
